A new home for solid skills
PSN broke new ground with our career conversion programme, Re-engineer. This fast-track programme gets highly skilled personnel into the oil and gas industry with all they need to make a safe and effective start in their new career.

Re-engineer is particularly popular with people from the armed forces. In its first two years of operation, we took 35 ex-service people and turned them into offshore electrical, mechanical and instrument technicians.

The formalised training package that builds on transferable skills has four key phases:

• Selection and skills profiling
• Formal training
• On-the-job experience 
• Assessment and validation

A key part of the programme is the transfer of knowledge which will be achieved by working with competent, skilled personnel. Candidates undergo a skills screen to identify their current level of experience and the gaps in their knowledge. The skills screen forms the basis for developing their learning plan, which will determine their training requirements.
