Leading best practice in Vietnam
Delivering for KNOC in Vietnam
Overview
This exciting venture is our first project in Vietnam and our customer’s first offshore project outside Korea. We are on schedule, on budget, and committed to being a positive member of our new community.
Scope
We have provided initial setup support through the pre-production phase and carry out all operations and maintenance of KNOC’s Rong Doi facilities. This includes the provision of all operations, maintenance, and logistical support personnel, the preparation of operating procedures and maintenance procedures and systems, and engineering support services for modifications and major maintenance.
Background
The impetus on this project is to develop the field to produce hydrocarbon in the most cost effective manner to maximise the value of the asset during its development life. These gas fields are expected to produce around 130 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day for the next twenty years.
Challenges
- We have no previous experience of working in Vietnam
- This is our customer’s first offshore production facility outside Korea
PSN's approach
- We have established a representative office in Ho Chi Minh City to allow business to proceed in full compliance with Vietnamese laws
- We use only Vietnamese companies for subcontracted services, where feasible
- We are implementing a training and competency development programme for our national Vietnamese personnel, which will allow them to take on the roles currently performed by expat personnel
- Our project team is enthusiastic and active in supporting local charities. By getting involved with concerns outside those of our industry, we are able to get a much more rounded understanding of a culture that is new to us, as well as ensuring we make a positive contribution to the local community
Achievements
- At short notice the scope of our contract was expanded to include commissioning; our team stepped up to the challenge and completed on schedule

“We are proud to support KNOC in this venture in Vietnam. Tremendous effort has gone into ensuring that safe methods of working have been introduced and adhered to. Our national staff has quickly adapted to the PSN way of working and they are a superb example of what can be achieved with structured systems and committed people.![]()
