Northern Russia is of global environmental importance. We have been playing a key role in the phased development of the Kharyaga field for more than ten years.

  • There is high demand for experienced project personnel in the region
  • The harsh climate and dramatic seasonal changes pose many safety and logistical challenges
  • Drivers and transportation face many hazards in extremely muddy and icy conditions

PSN's approach

  • Our transport and logistics people are some of the best in the business at keeping safety and communication paramount, while ensuring the work continues at the best possible levels of quality and efficiency
  • Our environmental monitoring programme ensures that we conduct our work responsibly
  • Ongoing demand for our people is only one proof of their quality.  We retain them by leading in all areas of HSE initiatives, courses, and continuous improvement of existing work methods, such as TapRoot, CARE, and Safety Culture Maturity Assessment
  • We work hard to develop the management skills of our employees and promoting within our business; our customer funds an English language teacher at the facility which is a great benefit in enabling members of the local team to feed their expertise into our global network
  • Our training courses are so highly regarded by our customer, that they allow their people time to attend
  • We have good relationships with the local government and inspection authorities
  • We aim to make a positive contribution to the community through activities such as sponsorship of local sporting events and donating medical supplies
  • We actively encourage student placements from the local university and around one third of our site staff are now former students who have done work experience at the Kharyaga site

Achievements

  • Royal Society of Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Silver Award
  • The project has been free of lost time safety incidents since 2005
  • Almost all of our subcontracted services are supplied by Russian companies

  • Our project team has produced the official operations manual for the Kharyaga field
  • Our ability to manage the high demand for our personnel from other companies without losing control over the performance of the contract is a major achievement
In the overheated Russian labour market we retain our people by offering a genuinely attractive professional development and career planning package. Sustaining good relationships with our customer and co-contractor help us in delivering our promises.
