Delivering for BP Caspian, Azerbaijan

Overview
On this project, dispersed over many worksites in a challenging environment, we are responding with engineering excellence, ever increasing productivity and lowered costs, and most importantly, an excellent safety performance.

Scope
Our services include provision of project management, engineering, procurement, fabrication management, construction, and commissioning services in support of BP Caspian Sea onshore operational assets in Azerbaijan.

This includes but is not limited to:

• Engineering studies and design activities to identify improvements in the efficiency of the process plant and equipment
• Designing modifications to BP installations required to deliver improvements in process and plant efficiency or safety
• Procurement of all project materials
• Provision of construction and commissioning personnel to execute modifications at facilities
• Management of BP’s other contractors that perform modification-related works
• Project implementation, including project management, engineering, design, procurement, installation and commissioning

Background
This is one of the busiest and largest-scale developments in the world, producing over 1 mmbopd and 1 mmscfpd.

PSN's approach

• Keeping everyone working as a team, across diverse nationalities and many worksites is certainly difficult, but it has not yet defeated our advanced management systems, which have been honed over years of experience, to control all aspects of our work
• Employing local people on this project is a priority and we have responded by recruiting some great local people who have done an excellent job of training subsequent newcomers from the area
• Not only do we use local subcontractors but our HSE team has been commended for their coaching of less experienced subcontractors to keep the worksites incident free
• Our engineering excellence and brownfield knowledge has produced impressive efficiencies
• Our culture of flexibility and responsiveness, embodied in our core values of respecting people, building good relationships, and innovation, is turning a challenging job into a showcase project

• Over 2 million manhours without a lost time incident
• Over 1.2 million km driven without a vehicle incident
• Our success in recruiting an extremely competent and able multinational team has resulted in a performance that has generated a reputation for delivery
• PSN Core Value award for localisation, awarded to the document control and information management team
• Almost all of our spending on subcontracts goes to wholly owned national companies or Azerbaijan-based international companies
