Running a successful study for In Salah Gas, Algeria
Delivering for In Salah Gas, Algeria
Overview
This large Front End Engineering Design (FEED) study required considerable detailed attention to the design aspect. Our customer’s project team moved into our offices and had full access to all our work, which enabled us to demonstrate consistently high levels of integrity and build and sustain a great relationship.
Scope
- Project management
- FEED studies involving all major engineering disciplines, to install gas compression facilities to the plants at Reg, Teg and Krechba
- Procurement of major long lead items. Preparation of EPC tender packages
Background
Our customer was installing gas compression facilities at the Reg, Teg, and Krechba fields. We carried out the concept selection and front end engineering design study for the installation of the gas compression facilities at three plants, on a tight schedule and with the goal of plant production to meet at least 99% of its annual target.
Challenges
- The size of the scope
- A tight schedule
- The necessity of keeping all stages and aspects of the work at all times transparent and accessible to our clients
PSN's approach
- Our open culture and good relationship with our customer’s project team kept us wholly aligned with our customer’s expectations
- To meet a larger than average scope for front end engineering design and a tight schedule, we decided to deploy a few highly experienced personnel, rather than more people with less experience. This enabled us to quickly identify issues and solve them before any problems developed, so keeping the scope manageable
- The experience and professionalism of our team enabled us to develop an execution methodology that had the necessary level of clarity for such a large scope
Achievements
- There were no lost-time safety incidents during the entire project

“This was one of the largest Front End Engineering Design (FEED) studies carried out by PSN in Aberdeen. We learnt a lot about the control and flow of information necessary for a major project and the preparation of tender packages for EPC contractors. This requires a 'deeper' FEED than normal as the level of detail needs to be closer to detail design than traditional FEEDs.![]()
